SUSTAINABLY BUILT

- MATERIALS -

Using recycled materials reduces the need to grow, harvest or extract new materials from the earth and requires much less energy, water and fossil fuels to produce. The benefit of using recycled material is that it lowers our carbon emissions and keeps potentially methane-releasing waste out of landfill sites.

We primarily use recycled nylon and recycled polyester and they have similar benefits: they divert waste from landfills and they use much fewer resources to produce. Our other primary materials of choice across our product range also have their own eco-friendly benefits, as seen below.

Sustainability | Material Guide

RECYCLED NYLON

-

The breathable outer shell of our Robes is made from 100% recycled nylon.

It is mainly produced from old fishing nets, which is a fantastic solution to diverting rubbish from the ocean. It can also come from nylon carpets and tights. It’s more expensive than new nylon, but the environmental advantages make it a worthwhile investment.

RECYCLED POLYESTER

-

The cosy fleece lining of our Robes is made from 100% recycled polyester.

The benefits of using this recycled material is that it is made from plastic bottles and a great way to divert plastic from our landfills. It requires fewer resources than that of new fibres and generates less CO2 emissions.

MERINO WOOL

-

Our D-Robe knitwear collection is made from extra-fine merino wool, which is a 100% natural, biodegradable, renewable and organic fibre, and has incredible sustainability benefits and a high-quality, lighter composition. It can biodegrade in both land and water without shedding any microplastics when thrown away or washed.

Another advantage of this sustainable fibre is that it is long-wear and low-care—it lasts a lot longer than other fibres and you’ll see that you don’t have to wash merino wool as much, which saves on water usage too.

TPU

-

To craft our roll-top rucksacks we use TPU as it is a more eco-friendly material than alternatives, such as PVC, and it is 100% recyclable and biodegradable. It is also waterproof, non-toxic and can be welded making for strong seams and more durable bags.

Another benefit of using TPU over PVC is that it is oil and water resistant and remains flexible at very low temperatures and doesn’t crack in high temperatures—making it a durable and heavy-duty material—perfect for multi-functional rucksacks for those conquering the summit or the sea!
